Fruit fly control has two jobs. First, remove fermenting food, liquid, or moist organic residue where new flies can develop. Second, use a trap to reduce the adults already in the room.

01 / WHAT I ACTUALLY TRIED
I poured gels down the drain. I made homemade traps. Neither solved the problem in my home.
Then I plugged a light trap into an outlet near the kitchen counter. It caught flies the first night. Over the following several days, the number flying around the kitchen dropped noticeably.
The trap caught the adults. Cleaning away food residue and breeding material stopped new flies from replacing them.

Check ripe or fermenting produce, beverage residue, trash, recycling, garbage disposals, drains, and damp cleaning materials. Remove the material, scrub away residue, and correct persistent moisture.
